Ongoing Road Closures in Argyll and Bute

Following Storm Babet, and the general wet weather in recent weeks there are a number of roads still closed in Argyll and Bute, including part of the A816 Lochgilphead to Oban road.

This is the page about the closures- if travelling in the area keep checking for updates- https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/service-status?fbclid=IwAR1BrZRnQPpzPzbp_Rl_rtesn-iou68IgYzbh3ziuNpxUhpiQkbnmYku-0w

Note that there is even a temporary passenger ferry running due to the A816 closure.

The A816 remains closed at Ardfern and will remain so into 2024. A relief road is now going to be built around the closed section- that road should be open shortly before Christmas.
It may remain as a relief road for use in future weather events, or even become a permanent new road if the current road cannot be made safe.

The relief (or emergency) road is due to open on 16 December, assuming no further severe weather.

On the original road around 15,000 tonnes of debris has been removed and a bund has been constructed to offer additional protection.

The emergency road is expected to open at 1pm on 16 December, and will operate on a convoy system as it is only one lane wide.

Other road repairs in Argyll and Bute continue after Storm Babet, including the main road into Lochgoilhead.
