We're exploring the Inner Hebrides next month and I'm a little confused about booking ferry travel with CalMac. I need three one-way tickets: Oban to Craignure; Fishnish to Lochaline; and Mallaig to Armadale. But when I try to book using CalMac, I'm required to enter a return trip, even though I don't need it. For example, I'm traveling from Oban to Craignure, but I will not be taking the ferry back from Craignure to Oban. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!
I bought a "Hopscotch" ticket last summer that could be used either one way or I think, roundtrip. I did one way from Oban to Craignure and then Fishnish to Lochaline. I did not take the Mallaig Ferry, so not sure if a Hopscotch ticket will include that or not. I know at one time I was planning to take the Mallaig ferry but changed my route plans - but I'm sure I had seen an option for that ferry (either in a Hopscotch or separately). I could reserve a time on the Oban ferry with the Hopscotch (since it was August and I heard the ferries get full fast). Fishnish has no reservation - so just got there early (it's a nice relaxing little excursion). You should be able to purchase one way - via separately or Hopscotch. I figured the hopscotch for those 2 ferries was just a tiny bit cheaper. I found that the website did not work well with certain browsers - so may be your issue if it's not giving you the option to select one-way.
The default on the CalMac site is a return, you can specify one way but have to check that box. The best choice though would be a Hopscotch ticket.
Thanks, Connie and MC-Glasgow! I called CalMac and they explained that the option for "Single" at the top of the booking screen means "one way." I didn't understand that.
