October / Rain

Folks who have been to Scotland in October recently - how rainy was it?
What comfortable, waterproof shoes did you enjoy?
Thank you,
julie

Was in Scotland in late September/October in '24. I'd say we had some rain (not necessarily all day) about half the time. I alternated between my Vessi weekend (waterproof) sneakers and my Sketcher slip ons (not waterproof). My feet never got wet.

Hi Julie

We were in Scotland October last fall. It was sunny with puffy white clouds or more often grey & blue skies with mizzle off & on. Only one day did it pour down in buckets. I wore Salomon low waterproof hikers and DH wore his Keen waterproof low hikers. We wore rain jackets all the time as showers were unpredictable and the jackets helped with the always constant breeze to wind. We never needed the pullover rain trousers we brought.

Scotland is always beautiful but we especially loved it with Autumn colors.

Take your rain gear and you'll have a terrific time no matter the weather.

Where in Scotland are you going? And how long for? The weather varies with the east being generally drier than the west. The weather is often unsettled and extremely changeable. October can be very wet and very windy. It’s impossible for anyone to tell you how wet it will be, but living here I always wear waterproof shoes (usually Merrell) and I always have a wind and waterproof jacket with me. Usually a hat and gloves too. Umbrellas are a waste of time in the wind and a nuisance on crowded pavements in cities.

To add to Skyegirl, the difference between the east and west is very notable.

October is autumn. Which means in Scotland it can have both summery and wintry weather. It can rain A LOT in October, and be dry as well. Depending simply on where and when you are.

It is a time when it is best to be prepared either way,.
