Hello! We’ll be in Oban for a few days and won’t have a car. I see that the ferry to Kerrera is about 2 miles out of town, or about a 45-minute walk from our accommodation. Is there an alternative mode of transport? I see there are a few local taxis, but am not sure if we’d need to arrange in advance and pay cash? Just trying to get the logistics sorted. Thanks in advance!
We were in Oban 2 years ago. I would suggest you book all taxis in advance. The taxis are also used to transport kids to school and those trips have priority.
We were able to pay with credit card.
You can also take the water bus over to the marina at the north end of the island, from the harbour steps close to the North Pier. Must be pre booked.
There is also the dead leg of a school bus, open to public use, morning and afternoon. Service 417.
I actually quite like the walk down there.
Just wanted to report back: we ended up walking to the town center to pick up a taxi, as none of the companies were answering our call. It was very easy and worked just fine! The driver gave us his card to call directly on our return ferry. We had a lovely day on Kerrera!
Thanks for the update. I'm so glad you had a wonderful day on Kerrera.
