Oban to Iona

After spending time in Edinburugh, Inverness, and the Orkney Islands, I'll be headed to Oban for a few days. I'm trying to decide if I I should take a one day round trip bus trip to Iona or take a bus and plan to stay one night in Iona. Any opinions?

I'll make my way to Ireland for a seven day visit after that.

Thank

I think you should decide this based upon your preferred travel style and what you like to do on vacation.
If you enjoy walks around a beautiful island and time on your own, spend the night.
If you like to see places, but like to have a little more to do in the evening than walk farm lanes, perhaps the day trip will do.

There are certainly more choices for restaurants, hotels, activities in Oban. The opportunity for a quiet evening in the country would be Iona.

If you are going on the day tour to Iona, consider adding Staffa into the mix if you enjoy either caves or Puffins.

Thanks for your ideas. Perhaps a day trip is the way to go. I'll plan the evening in Oban.

I've heard, but haven't researched that finding a place to stay on Iona is very difficult and one has to plan a year out to reserve a room. I may have heard that incorrectly, and it was just for one specific fantastic hotel or B & B, but it is something to consider since the island is so small and remote...

personally, we are staying in Oban and doing a Staffa tour of the 3 isles for a day...

Hello all. I wound up traveling by bus from Inverness to Oban. I arranged accommodations through the Tourist Information center after a few emails to them. They sent me a list of places and I contacted several. I was very satisfied with the one I choose. My reason for going to Oban was to travel via ferries and bus to the Isle of Mull and eventually to the Abbey on Iona. Wonderful decision! Be sure to eat at one of their fish restaurants including their famous fish and chip places.
