Oban in October

The weather can start to be Wind & Rain 4.8 " in October in Oban. Temperature High 40s-Low 50s. Sometimes the Ferries stop running due to stormy weather. Some of the Sites close for the Season. Locations inland would be better. Look at www.visitscotland.com which has great photos and many great ideas and info. We were there in early October and sometime wore high rubber boots in the rural country. But it could be a different weather patterns this year. You can get the weather averages online just by asking weather in the location and month. Don't worry there are National Parks and Lochs and Mountains with lots of Nature and Farms to Walk through in Scotland all year long. You could visit some of the Scotch Distilleries; just don't drive after imbibing. If you are for sure going to be in Oban just enjoy the Local Scene.

What are your expectations of Staffa? If it is just puffins, then no it isn't worth it. However you may see seals and migrating birds instead. There's still the scenery...

How long are you stopping in Oban and what sort of things are you interested in seeing/doing if you don't go to Staffa?

Thanks for replies. I have one day in Oban as part of a tour. Will visit Kilmartin Glen in the morning with the group and then rest of the day is free. The following day we go to Mull and Iona so that will be enough island hopping for me. What sights in Oban do you recommend for my free time?

• The Oban Distillery (book ahead)
• McCaig's Tower
• shops, galleries & wonderful seafood
• walk along the harbor front to the Oban War Memorial, Dunollie Lighthouse and Dunollie Museum & Castle

Outside of town

• Dunstaffnage Castle

I think we are on the same Rick Steves tour! Are you on the September 29-October 11 tour?

I know the cave on Staffa looks cool, but since the puffins are long gone, I'm thinking it's not worth the whole rest of the day.
I was just planning on spending it around town.
