newtonmore

My husband and I are planning a trip to Scotland end of May 2018. Planning 2 nights in Edinburgh taking a train to Newtonmore, staying there 4 nights and renting a car to see Glen Coe, Iverness, etc., then driving to the ferry and head to Skye for 3 nights and then head back toward Edinburgh for another night before flying out. Just wondering if this is a good plan? This is the area we want to cover. I went on a bus tour last year but wanted to see more and share with my husband.

Newtonmore is very small. It's centrally located which is good, but do you have a hotel or place to stay? My concern would be eating out four nights. If you are at a nice place that has dinner etc, they you'll be fine. But just bear in mind that it is a wee village. It does look like there is The Grill, a curry house and one other restaurant. i loved the museum.

Does your 4-night stay in Newtonmore include the car trips, one day at a time, to see Glen Coe, Inverness, etc? Or are you 4 nights in Newtonmore and then renting your car?

If the former, you're going to be spending a lot of drive time "commuting" to & from Newtonmore to your day trip destinations.
If the latter, note as the previous comment says, Newtonmore is really small. In either case, Newtonmore is not too far from Glamis Castle, which is really worth a visit even if you are not great castle buffs.

If you would consider reducing Newtonmore to 2 nights, you could stay the other 2 nights in Nairn, which is east of Inverness and very near Cawdor Castle, Culloden battlefield, and Clava Cairns; it is on the Moray Firth where you can go dolphin watching. I can recommend Tali Ayer B&B but there are many others in Nairn.

Thank You! I will definitely consider your input. No, have not reserved lodging yet. Yes, we plan to rent a car after settling some where in central Scotland.
