New Opportunity for Adventure in Scotland

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-49541621

Biking across Scotland? Never knew about this trail. My family consistently looks at hiking or volunteering vacations but had never considered a bike vacation. As avid trail bikers, perhaps this is a good excuse for us to stretch our boundaries and take a cycling trip!

Any cycling forum readers have experience packing up your bikes for overseas adventure? Anyone else have experience with this trail?

Thanks so very much.

I am not much of a biker, but biking tours are not that uncommon. It would be a novel way to see Tanzania and include a safari, as my coworker did. Given the amount of people who bike in parts of Europe (I'm thinking Amsterdam and some of the Benelux regions) it should certainly be considered. A neighbour often does DIY bike tours, but I think they get their bikes in country, stay in towns, and pack just what fits their panniers.

Another cycling route across Scotland, shorter than the one above, is the John Muir Way, which runs east-west from Muir's birthplace at Dunbar past Loch Lomond to the west coast.

We considered it when it first opened in 2014, but chose a walking holiday instead. I find the logistics of organizing a point-to-point bike tour with luggage a bit daunting. But maybe I should propose something this to my kids and grandchildren to celebrate my next "big" birthday.
