Diane, thanks for posting this! That really does look wonderful.

It is kind of funny, though, because two of those three itineraries are exactly what I did on my first and on my trip to Scotland back in 2023. I took the coastal road at the end, and before that was in Lewis and Harris. Although I didn't do the exact route as planned, I love the idea. And I especially like that they're promoting Lewis and Harris, which is one of my favorite places in Scotland. It's always a little worrisome when you think about how your favorite place might be overrun because other people find it as wonderful as you do, but I guess I shouldn't be greedy. 😊

I'm definitely bookmarking this and will hang on to it for future use.

Having visited all these places over the years, I can fully recommend the three different areas.

Dumfries and Galloway is an area yet to be discovered by the tourists and has so much to recommend it from ruided abbeys and castles to early Christian sites in the Isler of Whithorn to some serious mountains (Merrick) and also the lovely Loch Trool. There is the amazing Gem Rock Muserum in Creetown as well as the wonderful Logan Botanic Gardens... There are lots of attractive small villages and towns to explore too.

Jean Johannsson mentioned Biggar Museum, but not the Biggar Gasworks Museum. Those of us of a 'certain age' remember the gas works that were found in everyy town around the country. They are very much the forgotten heritage and now only three survive - this one in Biggar, another at Fakenham in Norfolk and one in Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland. It is well worth a visit...

The coastal route from St Andrews to Elgin is another gem. It also passes by the iconic Dunottar Castle and Aberdeenshire is renowned for its stately homes and whisky distilleries. The string of tiny fishing villages along the Moray Firth Coast are also worth s exploring (although these probably need a car...) Each is very different.

And as for Lewis and Harris - forget Skye, come here instead!

However. like Mardee, I do hope encouraging more people to visit doesn't destroy what makes them special ...
