We arrive in Scotland at 9:20 AM on Sunday and our first evening will be in Oban. We are renting a car. What would be out best route to visit the Neolithic sites in the area below Oban. Can any give me an idea ot which sites ate the most worthwhile?

Thank you

I assume you mean the Kilmartin area which is wonderful.

It should take you around 2hrs from Glasgow airport (if that’s where you land)- head for Loch Lomond then Inveraray, Lochgilphead then north to Kilmartin.

My favourites sites are Temple Wood Stone Circle and the various burial cairns and standing stones within walking distance of the stone circle.

Haven't been in to the new museum since it re-opened.The old was was excellent re the exhibits.

I also love nearby Dunadd (a short drive away) but that is not Neolithic. Here, you can see, after a short clamber, the Crowning Stone of the ancient Scottish kings.

Just before Kilmartin is the parking (signposted) for Achnabreck where a walk will take you to an enormous slab of rock with many 5,000 year old carvings. Not sure why I wasn’t so impressed with this, although I thought I would be.

If in need of some sustenance, the cafe at Kilmartin has always been good but for a stunning setting, you could push on to the Loch Melfort hotel which has a gorgeous outlook over islands and the sea.
