Need overnight stop between Stirling and Oban

Early August:

We are taking train from Edinburgh to Stirling. We will pick up rental car in Stirling and spend most of the day there visiting the Castle, etc. If time allows, we may visit Duone Castle and Deanston Distillery later that afternoon. We will eventually be headed to Oban area, but that's too much driving late in the day. Can anyone recommend an overnight town to sleep in between Stirling and Oban. We could just spend the night in Stirling and take in Duone and Deanston en route to Oban.

The eventual plan is to base in Oban for a couple days and visit Mull, etc, then a few days on Skye, followed by a couple nights in Inverness area. I think our last stop will be a full day in St. Andrews and head to EDI late that afternoon and sleep near airport on last night. We will have the better part of 2 weeks, but don't like too many one-night stands, nor spending several hours driving every day. We like to build in some chill out time.

I think I'll also need a home base not too far from Inverness/Cullodan areas and not too long of a drive to St. Andrews since we want to spend most of the day there .

The obvious place to stop between Stirling and Oban, distance-wise, is Tyndrum. You might call or email the Tyndrum Tourist Info office for lodging suggestions augmenting what you see online. In early August the highlands tend to be booked well ahead, as it's a popular vacation destination for Britons as well as tourists from European countries, so it's good that you're planning now.

In the area near Inverness and Culloden, I can recommend the town of Nairn. The B&B Tali Ayer is excellent but there are many others in town.

However, to drive from Nairn (or Inverness itself) to St. Andrews takes several hours. Are you looking to arrive St. Andrews in the morning and then leave from there in the afternoon (e.g., to sleep in Edinburgh)? If so, you'll need to get a very early start and watch the clock in St. Andrews to do all that in one day. You'd be better off driving south from Inverness to the area of Blair Atholl - Pitlochry for the night. That would put you closer to St. Andrews.
