Need help with road trip in Scotland

Traveling to Scotland in mid July. Have rental car for 1st week then will send 2nd week in Edinburgh. Do not know best places to drive the first 7 days. Also do not know if have to schedule hotels/motels in advance in July. Want to golf about 2 or 3 times. Any ideas?

You have not provided a lot of details for people to help you. Where are you picking up the rental car and what are you interested in seeing?

The Rick Steves book gives lots of great information on places to go, but at this late date all his recommended accommodations will be booked. I would definitely book accommodations in advance. You can look at Bookings.com for ideas for places you are interested in. You can drive into a town and check with a tourist information center, if they are open, but that wastes your valuable vacation time.

I'm sure there are lots of places where you can pre-book golf, but we are in Scotland now and have noticed several places that have pitch and putt, or some such, where you can just walk on. For example, we were at Cawdor Castle today near Inverness with such a course and club rentals. Golfers may add more info here.

We particularly enjoyed staying in Oban and doing the Three Isles tour to Mull, Staffa and Iona. The drive from Oban to Inverness was spectacular, taking time to drive into the Glencoe Gap and back, then up along the Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness.

The weather is not always great, but we have found that when the predictions have been 50/50, we've lucked out.

More details will give you more information.
