I haven’t stayed at either but I’ve stayed at a lot of Motel Ones and they’re all very similar (and good).

These hotels are very closed to each other, one on either side of Waverley Station, and you could walk between them in about five minutes, so really just go for the best price.

For me . the Princes Street location would be somewhat better . Otherwise no difference .

We stayed at the Motel One Princes and it was just fine. We would definitely stay there again. It is pretty no frills but has everything a traveler needs such as a hairdryer and tea and coffee making supplies. It is a short walk to the Royal Mile and very convenient. We opted out of the breakfast at the hotel to save money and chose to grab a bite at the Pret a Manger at the Waverly Station which is just across the street. There are other food sources in the station and a Marks and Spencer grocery store close by. We chose a room with a view.

I would also recommend eating at Makar’s Mash Bar at 9-12 Bank Street. You should get a reservation except for during the Fringe when it is first come first served.

If you stay there, they have a promotion that's ongoing - if you sign up for their rewards program, you get a free breakfast - and their breakfasts are quite good. FWIW, I did not stay at the Edinburgh one, but have stayed at Motel One in Berlin. I like Motel One - very consistent, clean, courteous staff and usually very conveniently located.

When are you going to Scotland?

I'll be there in September, Mardee 😊

Mary, that Makar’s Mash place looks really good! Thanks!

@Mardee We signed up for the rewards program and were entitled to one free breakfast and that was continental not full English. The reviews of the Motel One Princes breakfast were not that good so we opted out. We had more choices at Waverley Station.

I signed up and they emailed me a coupon code for a free breakfast

Oh good, roubrat! Mary, not sure why you only got the continental - mine was for the full breakfast. But again, that was in Berlin.
