Military Tatoo

Hi Gladys, This is very hard for people to answer.

First, the Military Tattoo is one event. It is likely challenging to get tickets for a specific night for the Tattoo at this point, but you may find a tour or hotel that can help you.

Secondly, in Edinburgh there several festivals that go on in the month of August.

• First, there is the International Festival. This is a curated festival so all the performances are invited. That means that they are all of very high quality and what you attend depends on your interests.
  
• Second there is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is not curated, but has marvelous performances as well. In 2014 there were 49,497 performances of 3,193 shows in 299 venues! So, sorting through the program is a challenge. And since it changes from year to year the experience from last year may not be helpful this year. I think that the best strategy is to peruse the program, and ask on TA what the locals think will be the winners this year. Of course, you could look and see where tickets are scarce as another indicator.
  
• Lastly there are the smaller festivals. The Edinburgh Art Festival, the International Book Festival, a TV festival (which I had never heard of until this hear) and another one that is new to me, a world music festival called MELA.
  

All of these take place over the month of August.

Do you want to go to the military tattoo or other events? I have just googled Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which has its own website that I fortunately can't seem to copy over. It runs from 7 August for 3 weeks and there are tickets available, many of which are expensive hospitality tickets, but others range from £25 plus a £5 booking fee. Some nights are busier than others.

Accommodation when the Fringe Festival is on in Edinburgh becomes more expensive and harder to find than usual.

I highly recommend the Royal Military Tattoo. It is a great evening of music from around the world, there are bagpipe bands, wonderful military bands, and the setting couldn't be more amazing!
