Map and scale for road trip?

I will have a GPS for my 2 1/2 road trip through Scotland but I'm thinking I should also get a good road map. Any suggestions for what map is best and what scale? I'd like to be able to see small towns roads as well as highways.

I'll be looping from Edinburgh, to Stonehaven, Inverness, Skye, Fort William, Sterling and fly out of Edinburgh.

Every petrol station will have maps.Anything about 3 to 5 miles to the inch is plenty good enough

Ordnance maps are great. Different colors indicate the scale. The red ones are the tourist maps and I find that they work fine and I don't think are official ordnance maps. I've gotten some pink ones which give the most detail for a few areas. The orange maps are less detailed. I also have the atlas. I mostly use it at home. :)
