Lunch stop en route to Dunvegan from Inverness

Leaving Inverness around 10am and hoping to find somewhere to eat before reaching Dunvegan. Unfortunately it will be a bank holiday Monday tomorrow!

We will be traveling the south route past west coast of Loch Ness.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Dundreggan Rewinding Centre has a lovely cafe, but perhaps a bit too close to Inverness? It's about an hour's drive from Inverness, but if you're stopping to look at Loch Ness it might work.

Otherwise, Cosy Corner Cafe at Balmacara (just off the A87) if it's open. Their hours can be somewhat variable and they are sometimes closed on Mondays. Not sure about the Bank Holiday, whether it makes it more or less likely that they would be open.

Next stop would be Kyle of Lochalsh, but not really anywhere worth recommending there!

After that then in Broadford there's Coffee Bothy, Deli Gasta and Cafe Sia - all of which are good.

A slight detour off the A87 just before Broadford would bring you to An Crubh, which is a community run shop and cafe. Very good.

If none of that works then Seamus' Bar at the Sligachan Hotel does food from about 1130am until late.

Wow! Thanks for all this! Will definitely follow your suggestions.

Can I indulge your generosity with a second question: where to get hiking lunch supplies in Dunvegan and also Portree?

As well as the great options above, if you don’t mind a 15 min detour near Broadford will take you to Am Praban bar down at lovely Isle Ornsay on Skye. It’s somewhere I never miss for lunch if I can possibly help it.

Again , a minor detour depending on your route to Dunvegan (and probably the most scenic route is via Loch Bracadale) is the Carbost Inn.On a sunny day, it’s lovely to sit on their outdoor terrace beside Loch Harport.Just a minute or so’s drive from there is the Oyster Shed - well worth a stop if you enjoy seafood.Casual outdoor (under a covered terrace) eating.

Portree has 2 Co-op supermarkets (the one on the edge of town off the main road to Dunvegan) is large, the town centre one is quite small but still useful.

Fasgadh Stores and Jann’s Cakes in Dunvegan are worth a look to see if they have what you fancy too.

Great suggestions too from scotlandmac, although I have not seen Jann's Cakes open yet this season. You can also find a deli counter and cake to eat in or take away at The Dunvegan, which is just along the road from Jann's.

If you're heading out to Neist Point there is Cafe Lephin which is a lovely wee cafe and also Glendale Post Office and Village Stores which sells everything you'd need for a picnic.

Another good cafe is Bog Myrtle in Struan - variable hours but should be open more regularly now things are starting to get busy.
