lodging near university of Edinburgh

greetings! we will be visiting my niece in the oct 21-31 timeframe. she is attending Univ. of Edinburgh this fall semester. we'd like to stay fairly close to campus yet be able to sightsee easily during the day when she in her classes then meet up with her in the evenings. i would be grateful for advice regarding neighborhoods and/or specific lodgings. we appreciate historic properties with charm, some quiet, and moderately priced. we will not have a car but enjoy walks and short runs. Thank you!

The University is in the city centre just under the castle and in close proximity to many of the main sites. Have a look at its location on Google Earth, a number of nearby hotels popped up.

do you know where she is staying and what campus she will be on , there are several campuses spread all over the city (I use to work for the University before I retired.)I would suggest however staying in the Newington area of the city, there are numerous small hotels, guest houses and B&B's in this area, very easy to either walk into the city center or get one of the numerous buses .
