My husband and I plan to spend three nights in Inverness in May 2026. Any suggestions for lodging? Thanks!
Hi, pa.gates.5,
If you're looking for something clean, comfortable, and utilitarian, I'd recommend one of the several Premier Inns in and around the town. We've stayed in the Premier Inn East, and the Premier Inn West, and enjoyed them both. They're definitely not the Ritz, but if you're looking for a place to go to at the end of a long day exploring, the PI fills the bill. You might also want to check out the Premier Inn Nessbank. As the name implies, it's right on the bank of the River Ness. Only drawback for that particular hotel is that you have to pay for parking. Can't beat the location, though!
As with all Premier Inns, the further ahead you make the booking, the lower the price.
Enjoy Inverness! It sometimes gets slagged off on this site, but there is a lot to do in the town, and it's a great central location for day trips.
Best wishes,
Mike (Auchterless)
Premier Inns are always reliable choices, although I'd say the breakfast options have gone downhill recently. I was particularly disappointed by a recent stay at Inverness West, where service and food availability at breakfast were very poor.
I am staying in Inverness this coming weekend and have chosen the Marriott AC (corrected thanks Frank II) in the city centre and on the riverside. I have stayed there before. The rooms are very quiet despite some facing a busy road, breakfast is superb and there is parking. If you can secure a decent rate including breakfast then it'd be my number one choice in Inverness.
I have stayed in four different rooms at the Premier Inn on the River Ness. All were fine but one was on the first floor, right above the entrance to the hotel and near the door to the elevator so it was a little noisy. Other than that, they were fine. (My last stay was last month.) There's a full size Tesco across the street from the back door of the hotel.
I believe Skygirl is referring to the AC Hotel and not the Marriott Bonvoy as Bonvoy is the name of their rewards program.
You are correct Frank II. I don't know what I was thinking!
Thanks so much for all this good information!
We stayed at the AC Marriott hotel in Inverness last year and really liked it. Immaculately clean, with large rooms and comfortable beds. We had a family room and a regular king room and both were spacious with excellent views of the river. Breakfast is phenomenal - wide variety of fresh and delicious foods. Short walk to the center of town.
I've stayed at the Eildon B &B. Very moderately priced and comfortable. I've also stayed at the Art House Apartments, which was more luxurious and very convenient to downtown, with more space and a washing machine.
We stayed three nights w/ one of Rick's recommended BnB's a month ago - Atholdene House. Andrew is extremely helpful, kind and engaging (funny too). Home is warm, clean and well kept. Breakfast was terrific with many selections and made to order. Loved it. Loved Inverness too!
I am a big believer in doing vacation rentals or B & B. So much so that in our international travels where we spend at least 2 or more days in one location, we use them 95% of the time. Most of the time they are less expensive than a hotel and they offer super privacy. Even if you are not interested in cooking your own meals, the host's can guide you to a local favorite restaurant.
I don't know how you are getting to Inverness, but if it is via A9, and you are driving, be prepared for the thrill of your life and take plenty of blood pressure meds.
There are some interesting mom and pop shops in and around the lake that you might want to visit.
Just a quick note that the breakfast at Premier Inns (which is a continental breakfast or a cooked breakfast at a slightly higher cost) is not included in the price. That said, you don't have to decide whether to include it when you book as the breakfast is pay as you go. So you can come down in the morning, take a look at the breakfast and if decide you don't want it, don't pay and go someplace else. 😊
I will say that I've stayed at Premier Inns throughout Scotland and England, and have never had any major problems with them. They're consistently clean and comfortable, and the beds are very comfortable in my opinion. You certainly won't get luxury or a quaint B&B vibe, but they're reasonably priced and good value for the money. That said, their basic wifi is pretty crappy. I usually upgrade to the premium, which is an extra £5 a night, but it depends on how much you use the wifi.
We enjoyed our single night at The Ness House which is a few blocks east of the river. Breakfast was reduced to continental due to Covid, but I expect it's back to normal. Parking on premises, walk to everything.
Not to disrupt your plan, but Nairn is also a great place to stay, if you can find a good spot (we stayed at Invernaine GH). We found that Inverness itself was not that interesting, at least not for three nights. If you're planning day trips to Loch Ness or Culloden/Clava, it doesn't matter too much where you stay.
Thanks so much for all your suggestions!

We just stayed at a B&B property in Inverness that I feel was a nice property, in a great location and wasn't too expensive... we used Booking.com for it.
It's called Ardentorrie House and is just a couple of blocks off the main old town area and has a great view to the Inverness Castle from above (it's up the hill a block away).
If you want to be able to walk around a bit and have an easy time doing so, this place is located very well for that. They have on-site parking, and also serve breakfast in the morning.
