Has anyone utilized these lockers at the station? Are they quite safe? How often are suitcases lost/stolen? We must check out of our apt by 10am and were hoping to do Edinburgh castle that morning so we thought about dropping suitcases off and then picking them up after for a trip to the airport by station.

I don't know any news about those bus station lockers. I've personally never had an issue with any station locker, left-luggage office, hotel storage, etc., but I also don't leave valuables in them - just clothes and standard luggage. Passport and other "money-belt items" stay with you, as do any valuable electronics.

We don’t use the train or bus station lockers because honestly, we couldn’t find them (stations so crowded).
We use the lockers at The Portrait Gallery by the tram on York Place or The National Gallery museum by Waverley Station. Both have great security and cafes so we are able to see both museums, lock up our luggage, then hop on the tram to the airport.
