Lochbuie on Mull

I was reading this article in the Guardian (written a while ago) looking for ideas for walks in England, but happened to see something about an area called Lochbuie, which looked very interesting. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2016/apr/23/british-walks-uk-family-long-distance-paths-trails (scroll down to the 2nd last section for the Mull info.

I'm not planning on going there (at least in the near future), but it looks gorgeous and very remote, and it caught my interest. Has anyone been here?

As chance would have it I was there last year. Saw an otter.

Also featured in the Guardian's article is Dunstanburgh Castle - walked along there many a time 🥾 🥾

I haven’t been there, though I lived in Scotland for many years.
My GG. Grandmother and her family were from there and surrounding hamlets such as Kinlochspelvie, back in the mid-1800’s and much further back.
My Scottish cousin has been many times and explored all the old churches and graveyards for our family genealogy.
We were always told our family motto was from the MacLaine’s of Lochbuie: “Conquer or Die”!
Not sure how true that is!🧐

I believe the whole island is very beautiful.
One day!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ramblin on, that’s pretty neat that you were there last year. It looks so gorgeous. And I’m definitely planning on taking the walk to Dunstanburgh Castle in April when I’m in Yorkshire. Well, at least part of it. 😊

SJ, that’s so interesting that your family is from there! How cool is that? Oh, you will love that area! I loved Mull, and I wish I would’ve known about Lochbuie when I was there. Somehow I missed it. I definitely want to go back one of these days. Mull was one of my favorite places in Scotland.

For a lot of people in Scotland if you ask them, which is the favourite island, it will be Arran, Mull, or Skye. Mine is Mull. Definately going back when I can.

Stuart, that looks like a nice place to have a bite. And I love that they have tablet scones - yum!

MC-Glasgow, I'm with you on that one. I've been to all three, and really enjoyed Arran and Skye, but Mull was the place I really loved. It has my heart.
