Loch Ness

We're travelling to Scotland this coming May and would like to know where the best place to view this lake? We're staying in Grantown-on-Spey and have a car.
Thanks,
Jean

Off topic but we stayed in Grantown-on-Spey in 2013 and had a terrific curry. Can't remember the name of the restaurant. Was on the main drag. Highly recommended.

If you go to Urquhart Castle you will have wonderful views of the Loch. But there are lots of other places.

Well, I wondered if anyone could specify which location on the East side of Loch Ness would be a nice drive to?

The east bank the road is away from the edge for half the edge of the loch, with single track for most of the journey. It might be quieter, but even when then might be more stressful.

I think you would be better off stopping and going for a walk. :) You will get a wonderful view at Dores.

Ok, as my friend just had knee surgery, how far a walk is it from Dores to view the Loch?

Thanks.

Dores is just at the north end of the east side of the loch just where the road becomes, if coming from Inverness, single track.

And I think you can see it from the parking lot. :)

Interestingly, given the threads about crime in Europe, at one point the post code area that covers the east bank of Loch Ness had one of the highest crime rates in Scotland per capita. It also was home for a decade of a summer rock festival that added 35 000 people to an area with a population of only a few hundred.

The festival has not been held for a couple of years.

Avoid Loch Ness, as it's a hideous tourist trap. There are many many nicer lochs in Scotland. Pick any. From Grantown, visit Loch Garten, a pretty spot.

Wow, Jennifer! Did Nessie get you? :) I think if you avoid Drumnadrochit you miss most if not all of that tourist tat.

I agree that there are lots of beautiful lochs, but Loch Ness is huge and it too is beautiful.
