Local tour company to Kilmartin Glen

My family and I (3 adults) will be traveling from Glasgow to Oban in May 2026 for the ferry to Lunga Island to see the puffins. We will arrive in Oban on Saturday, May 9, see the puffins on Sunday, May 10, and return to Glasgow on Monday, May 11. Does it seem feasible to get to Kilmartin Glen on either Saturday or Monday? We do not have a car, and while I see that bus travel is possible, I would prefer a local guide for a half day. Are there any guide services in the Oban area that you could recommend?

As always, thank you so much for your help!

Hi, Genifer, it sounds like a wonderful trip! I love Scotland.

With regards to Oban guide services, I don't know of any personally but here is a link to the official Oban tourism website, and they in turn have some info and links to local guides. I would suggest going through those to see if anything works for you.

One more thing, I would think that Monday would be better but honestly, I would check with the guide service you choose, as their schedule may determine which day you choose. However, you are starting your planning very early so you should have a lot of flexibility.

Just a thought—have you thought about renting a car just for the day on Monday? There are a couple of local car rental agencies in Oban and it might be less expensive and certainly a bit more flexible. Of course you wouldn't have the guide's knowledge to fall back on but Kilmartin is pretty easy to see on your own. Plus the area around Oban is fairly easy to drive on. It's not like driving on the islands. And even the single track roads are pretty well laid out. Of course, I don't know how the cost of a car rental for the day would compare to a guide, so that may be a consideration as well.
