Hello!
My son and I will be in Edinburgh in April and we would love to see live Gaelic music. Does anyone know of pubs or places where musicians tend to get together to play informally?
Thanks!

The Royal Oak pub.
There happens to be a great Indian restaurant next door, too.
The Bothan is Edinburgh's Gaelic night club, an evening filled with live music and good cràic. It's held once a month on a Friday in the Canons' Gait. It looks as if the April session is 5th April
There is a Facebook site called Edinburgh Trad Music and Session Hub that will help you out.
A session is the name for a sort of informal folk/trad musicians’ get-together to play , usually in a pub.
Enjoy!🏴
It’s been years, but we saw live music at The King's Wark, 36 Shore, Leith. We happened across it while walking around the area from our hotel.
Sandy Bells is a pub that has informal music sessions every day. I stopped in one evening last year when they were playing and it was really nice. The place is small and can get crowded but it was fun to listen to the music.
It's right by Greyfriars Churchyard, which is worth a visit just for the atmosphere. I wandered around here in the evening, enjoying the ambience (and checking out some of the Harry Potter sites, like the grave marker for Tom Riddle that inspired JK Rowling), then headed over to Sandy Bells. There's also a good gelato place nearby. 😋
