Will be in Lerwick and Inverness, 8 to 5, one day each on a cruise in early June. Any advise on what to do or see?
This is the Celebrity Eclipse on the way back from Iceland.
In Lerwick you are at Anchor Location 1 (off Bressay Lighthouse), so are tendered ashore. That means you are unlikely to be ashore much before 10 and will need to be back by 4pm at the very latest.
For Lerwick see this recent post- https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/scotland/lerwick-shetland-islands-scotland-a3ac8fb5-2210-4677-acad-bfac0c3dc2b9
No cruise ship docks at Inverness - they dock at Invergordon- a one hour drive North of Inverness. Thus if you want to go to Loch Ness or Culloden you more or less have to go on a ship's excursion.
Just into Inverness is easy by train or a heavily enhanced local bus service. And don't miss the wartime history of the town including the HMS Natal disaster-the warship was full of unstable explosives and blew up killing over 400 people- some local residents.
Are you fans of the Shetland TV show? If so the house they use for exterior shots of the 1st detective, Jimmy Perez, is close enough to walk from the dock area where your tender will land. Shetland Museum is nearby in the other direction from Jimmy's House, lol.
There is an Iron Age Broch within walking distance (about a mile) called Clickamin Broch.
If you wanted to take a tour they I think will often take people south to the very interesting Jarlshof archeological site that has uncovered layers from the Bronze Age, Pictish times, Viking times and a more recent remains of a manor house. Near to that is Sumburgh Head which has a cool lighthouse and nesting birds plus stunning views!

I love Shetland, lol!!
The Culloden battlefield and museum are excellent. No doubt your ship will have an excursion there - that's what I'd recommend. Bring layers and a waterproof - the battlefield was really cold and windy when we were there in late May.
Great info!!!! Thank you!!
We are doing a British Isles cruise later in June. We watched several You Tube videos of excursions out of Invergordon made by cruisers, and one couple (ParoDeeJay) went on a tour with Wow Scotland Tours. It looked good and covered more than the cruise ship tours. We booked it for our day there. Another couple used Thistle Excursions which had a similar itinerary as the Wow Scotland Tours. It looks like both currently have availability on June 2nd. I hope this helps. Have fun!
