Short Term Rental 10 days of a car at Edinburgh Airport

I have rented a vehicle from Inverness (in town) before but this time we want to lease and dropoff from EDI Airport. I can book online and incude the CDW insurance but it looks like to get COMPLETE coverage we have to buy the additional rider at the desk. Does anyone have experience with this process? Any suggestions on the best site(s) to go through to lease? As an example, I belong to Costco and am looking at leasing through their program. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

thanks - I'm sure that one of regulars will be along with help.

If you changed the word Leasing to Renting it may get more eyes on. Leasing is usually a minimum of 30 days.

Good luck

We rented through the often recommended Celtic Legends in 2023. They use Arnold Clark Car Rental, the largest rental agency in Scotland.

Compare the prices. At the time Celtic Legends included free second driver and GPS at a lower rate that booking directly with Arnold Clark. We choose the option at booking for complete coverage. We picked up at the Glasgow airport location and returned the car at the Sighthill location in Edinburgh.

Both companies were very easy to work with.

I will also recommend Arnold Clark, which you can book directly or go through Celtic Legend. CL will often have perks like free Sat Nav or a free secondary driver. I've rented from them a number of times and have gotten the basic coverage but not coverage for the deductible. However, that is because I pay for it with my Chase Sapphire Preferred card, which covers any additiobnal charges like that. In 2024, I dinged my car a bit and had to pay £1000 for the deductible, but after I submitted the paperwork to Chase, I was fully reimbursed in about 4-5 weeks.

Turo is also available in Scotland. I'm not usually the driver when I travel, but my drivers generally prefer Turo to traditional car rental. It's like AirBnB but for cars.

Be careful with Turo. Many US insurance companies do not cover it and credit cards like Chase Sapphire or American Express will not cover a Turo rental since it is considered peer to peer.

I go through Costco travel for countries it offers the rental service partially because one gets a second driver at no additional cost. I select the insurance coverage I want when picking up the car. The last time I rented in the UK, it was Edinburgh, and 2022. Sometimes Costco doesn’t offer automatics, so ensure it says automatic when reserving. Also, after reserving, check back periodically to see if the price has decreased. If it has, make a new reservation and then cancel the original one.

For an upcoming trip to Span I’ve re reserved once already when the price decreased by €100.

Hi all,
Thank you again for the information. After reading the reviews for Celtic Legend, we decided to go with them. The entire process so far has been exceptional. They have answered all of our questions, the rates are very reasonable compared to major car rental companies. I do belong to Costco but even their prices were hundreds of dollars more. I will report again after our trip!!
