Lawers (on Lock Tay) or Dalavich?

My husband and I are visiting Scotland with our 3-year-old son for 1 week next August (or July?). We will be driving in from Wales and we want to be able to take in Scotland's natural beauty. Looking at different Airbnb rentals that are available, we are interested in exploring the option of staying in either Lawers or in Dalavich. We are certainly open to other locations upon suggestion.

It is important that we stay in a beautiful place (which isn't hard to find being in Scotland) with hiking options near by and family friendly activities. My husband would also like to go fishing a couple of times. This will be at the end of our UK trip and we will fly home probably out of Edinburgh. Would you stay in Lawers or Dalavich? Feel free to name other areas as well.

Much as I enjoy the west of Scotland (Inveraray and beyond), for your purposes it looks like Lawers might be better since it's more in the heart of Scotland. A lot will depend, of course, on the specific lodging you can find and how well it suits your needs with a toddler.

As a stop on your drive from Wales, you may want to take a short cruise on Loch Lomond. There are boats out of Balloch (southern end of the Loch) and also out of the charming village of Luss -- see Cruise Loch Lomond.

With a child that age you may want to break the journey. Caernarfon to Glasgow is about five hours.

Perhaps Carlisle or Lockerbie as a break.
