Laundry on 13-Day Scotland Tour

Hi Forum Contributors - Advice on how to get laundry done on this tour? Any other tips also welcome! Thanks, Toni

You’ll find most people here will probably say to hand wash items in the sink, then dry overnight. The heated towel racks help.

If you’ll be in one city for more than 1 night mid-way through the tour, research fluff & fold laundry services in that place. Drop off laundry on arrival day, pick up the next day. They may even deliver to your hotel for a fee. Otherwise watch the hours to make sure you’ll be able to pick it up before moving on!

Self service laundromats are also an option. It will probably take a couple hours.

For the towns you’ll be staying in, search Google maps for laundrette, laundromat, or laundry service. Any in the town will show up.

ask your RS tour leader at the first meet-up, for when the best opportunity will be and where. They know stuff like this.

Yes, your tour leader will suggest laundry possibilities on your tour.
I also check the itinerary for a likely town midway on the tour, then check the RS guidebook. Often the location I find through the guidebook is the same place the guide suggests.

Ha, that would be me! I generally pack very light and wash by hand every few days. On a long trip (3 weeks or more), I might try to find a laundromat in town after a week or so, or stay at a B&B with a washer available.

Hi, tonirey

I don't know where the tour is taking you, but there are coin-op laundrettes in Aberdeen, Huntly, Inverness, Fort William (Caol), and Portree that I've used in the past. There are service wash laundries (drop off and pick up) in Oban, Fort William, and Elgin. Probably in many more towns, as well. There used to be one in Tobermory near the harbour, but I don't know whether it still exists.

Good luck, and happy laundering!

We just finished that tour. I believe that the hotel in Oban offered laundry service. You will have 3 days there. There is also a laundromat near the hotel in Inverness. Our guide never mentioned where we could get laundry done on the tour which would have been helpful. Ask at the first meeting.

Hi again, tonirey,

Apparently the Oban Quality Laundry on Stevenson Street has some competition. Mandarin Oban is the new kid on the block, and they have been receiving excellent reviews. They are on John Street, right in the heart of Oban. They only do service washes (two pounds extra for same day); no coin-op.

Happy laundering!
