last 2 days in scotland

I am travelling in August with my husband and 2 teenage daughters. We are spending 2 nights in Edinburgh, 3 St. Andrews. Would you suggest the last 2 nights - flying out of Edinburgh. One idea is to head north and west into the Cairngorm and castles the other is west to oban and loch lommond. What is the best way to finish the trip off without too much driving?

Just checking -- are you actually going to have a car those last 2 days? Are you considering train or other means of travel? How much driving would be too much?

It probably depends what time your flight is. For a morning flight you probably do not want to contend with rush hour in Glasgow which would rule out anything to the west of it. An afternoon/evening flight would make put west of Glasgow back on the list. Or even Glasgow itself.

You could look into the Trossachs or Perthshire, neither of which is as far as the Cairngorms and so is shorter connection to the airport. I would recommend Dunkeld as Via Michelin shows a little over an hour to the Airport, but you have to go over the bridge so you would need to allow more time. But it's a lovely area. You could either see Blair Castle, or take a bit longer get over to Glamis Castle. The Trossachs are beautiful and you could stay in Callandar. It's still a bit over an hour to the airport per viamichelin, but at least you don't have to deal with the bridge. It too is a beautiful area. I had a wonderful day taking the the Steamboat on Loch Katrine. If you're energetic, you can rent bikes and bike back instead of taking the boat. :)
