June ScotRail from Stirling to Inverness: Are seats available generally on Wednesday afternoons?

Hello,

I'm traveling with 5 family members on a Wednesday in late June on ScotRail from Stirling to Inverness. I was wondering if anyone had insight on the "crowdedness" of the train (after 2pm, before 4pm) and the likelihood of seats. We were told by ScotRail that seat reservation was unavailable for our 3 hour journey and I just want to gauge if we can snag a few seats for the journey.

thanks and have a great day

The reason you can't book seats yet is that we are not within the 8 week booking window which Scotrail are currently on- if you wait for that time then you will be able to book seats- make a dummy booking for 7 June (the latest Wednesday currently available) to see that you can book seats on that date.
It was pre Covid when Scotrail were last on 12 weeks.
Travel on the 1416 or 1532 trains as those are scheduled to be 4 coach Inter7City HST sets, rather than 2 or 3 coach trains.
With 5 or 6 of you that is quite important to wait for the booking period.
Also you will get cheaper advance fares at that stage- fixed to a specific train.

Thank you! I will try that out in a few weeks. Much appreciated.
