We are planning a Scotland trip this April. We will most likely arrive in Edinburgh and head immediately to The Borders for at least 3 nites. From there we will head North to Orkeny for at least 4 nites, We would like to stop for 3+nites in two places on the way. Maybe somewhere around Aviemore? Any ideas between Edinburgh and Aviemore? Beyond Aviemore? After Orkney we would head South for about 5-6 nites before departing Edinburgh. Skye, Mull, Inverness?
We have been to Edinburgh so don't require anything more than an overnite. We would like to do as much as possible without driving. We are active hikers/walkers old enough to be offered concessions without asking.
Thanks in advance for any input ...Brad
Scotland can be cold in April...you can dress for the weather...but that is why drinking Whisky is popular.
How are youn intending to get to Orkney - ferry or flying? That could influence one of the places you stop.
Have you thought about flying direct from Edinburgh to Orkney at the start of your holiday and then working back south, ending with a few days in the Borders?
Hire a car for Orkney. Then catch the ferry back to Scrabster and then catch the train from Thurso south to your first overnight - say Inverness. Hire a car there and do a one way car hire back to Edinburgh, exploring on the way south.
