Help with Itinerary

Well, since you’re asking for feedback, I would take one of those days from Glencoe and tack it on to either Skye or Edinburgh. Glencoe is a small village and there’s some beautiful scenery there, but two nights is plenty of time to see everything.

On the other hand, Edinburgh is a wonderful city with a lot to see and do, I think your 16-year-old would really enjoy it. Two nights there only gives you one full day, and that’s not nearly enough.

But if you really don’t want to spend more time in Edinburgh, then I would add it to Skye, as four nights gives you three full days and you could easily spend three days on Skye, seeing everything.

Look into renting your car upon leaving Edinburgh. Arnold Clark Car Rental or their partner Celtic Legend is a good place to start. Same car, but sometimes different rates and perks like free GPS and second driver and they allow one way rentals. Their Sighthill location is on the edge of Edinburgh and makes a convenient pickup location.

Plan on drive times taking longer than Google maps suggested times. In addition to delays due to accidents, construction and weather, there are multiple places to stop in route for views, a waterfall, a ruin and more. Especially on Skye in summer, parking can be limited and roads can be slow going. Try to get an early start for places like the Fairy Pools.

Start looking for lodging on Skye ASAP. Rooms tend to be booked far in advance. Dinner reservations should also be booked ahead.
