Looking for a Scottish gothic type castle (non-resorty or grand hotelish) that we can spend a night or two in. Preferably along or nearby Loch Ness.

And what about the inside? Gothic? Or just gothic on the outside?
One place I saw that looked really cool was Glengorm Castle on the Isle of Mull. I had tea and a pastry in the cafe there, but it's in a gorgeous location (right on the water) and the castle is really beautiful. Here's a link to their lodging rental: https://glengormcastle.co.uk/

There is Inverlochy Castle Hotel which might fit the bill, but it is nearer Fort William than Inverness.
Alternatively there is Tulloch Castle Hotel in Dingwall, about 17 miles NW of Inverness. The interior may be a bit more 'Gothic' than Inverlochy Castle.
I think you are out of luck along or near Loch Ness...

Not near Loch Ness, but near Edinburgh, we stayed at Dalhousie Castle Hotelin June 2024. This is more of a grand hotel, but you get the full castle feeling, the dining was excellent, and we enjoyed their "Falconry Experience".
