Isle of Skye To Do

Just completed a 3 day tour of Skye. Thought I would share..
We took the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale and stopped at Armadale Castle, Gardens, & Museum. The museum is excellent, even includes the statue of Greyfriars Bobby (I think it was the original- also saw it in Edinburgh). Drove to Portree and sadly our reservations for our restaurant were cancelled due to a family emergency but the hotel, The Marmalade, could not have been more accommodating. They made room for our party of 6 and it was delicious! The following day we took an incredible tour with Real Scottish Journey’s. Our tour guide was a master story teller. Our last day was incredible. I am not a boat person, but a few people wanted to take a boat ride. I chose a boat that had heat and a rain cover - just in case - and it was magical! It was called Seaflower Skye. We set out from Portree, saw lots of wildlife (eagle, dolphins, whale, and believe it or not - even a submarine!!) We anchored at Isle of Rona and were served a 5 star lunch and given time to hike. It was a little expensive but worth every penny..
I researched A. LOT before I went so thought I would share because it can be overwhelming!

So glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit to our beautiful island. Seaflower Skye is indeed a wonderful company and their trips are superb. It is not that unusual to see submarines in these parts as there are a lot of military exercises occurring at various times of the year in the coastal waters of the Minch and the Inner Sound.

Future visitors might also be interested in Skye Geography Tours, who offer small group (max 4 people) guided walks to off the beaten track parts of Skye that most tourists wouldn't know about. They aim to tell the story of how the landscape was formed and has evolved over time. Really interesting tours with lots of opportunities to see wildlife too!

What an interesting and helpful report. Thank you

The boat trip is something that sounds wonderful. We were on Skye in April and treasure our time there. Our 2 1/2 days on Skye only whetted our appetite for a return trip! We arrived by rail from Inverness and hired a car from Kyle Taxi and Care Hire, they were wonderful, helpful and a reasonable cost. We dropped our little red Kia at Armadale and took the ferry back to Mallaig on the “mainland”.

I am more than ready to return to Scotland and especially to Skye.
Thank you again.

We are visiting Armadale Castle in a few weeks during our trip to Scotland. Our surname is Donaldson so we are hoping to find some souvenirs/gifts to bring back. Do you happen to know if their gift shop has a good supply of Clan Donald items? Do they sell kilts?

Thanks!
