Isle of Skye and Luggage storage in either Edinburgh or Glasgow

We are taking the RS Scotland tour in August. We want to go to Isle of Skye and Glasgow afterwards. Found a 3 day tour with Robbie to provide from either Glasgow or Edinburgh. Our flights will be to/from USA from Edinburgh, so we need to eventually return to Edinburgh. The Robbie tour restricts the amount of luggage you can take on their van and we wouldn’t need everything for the short tour anyway.
Is the luggage storage at the train station in either Glasgow or Edinburgh safe?
Or since we would be returning to the same hotel we left the tour from for a few days, would they accommodate 2 bags?
Or, worse yet, should we keep the room at the hotel while we are away?

I would bet the hotel can accommodate the bags. They might charge you a fee though, but it would be cheaper than keeping the room. Can you email/call them an ask? You can also check out a site like BagBNB for luggage storage. Here's a link for Edinburgh and for Glasgow.

Rabbies luggage restrictions/suggestions aren't much different than Rick Steves tours--I have done both. What size suitcase are you taking per person?

Thank you both for your replies. Our luggage is RS compliant.

We did not wish to take up the room on the small vehicle and carry the luggage for a 2 night trip. We would rather just backpack the overnight necessities, sit back and enjoy the scenery!

You can do as you wish, of course, but in case others are reading this, there is actually a pretty sizable luggage area in the back of the Rabbies coaches, completely separate from the passenger area.

Every hotel will have different rules, I would contact the hotel to see if they can accommodate your request.

We stored a suitcase at the Glasgow central train station for two weeks last August (my husband was continuing on to Italy for cycling, so he left that suitcase behind). It was safe, and very easy for him to pick up on his way to the airport for the next part of his trip.

Yes, there is left luggage at Glasgow Central station that should be fine - https://www.excess-baggage.com/rail-station-stores.php

Afaik, there are left luggage facilities at Glasgow's other large station, Queen Street - However, the station is currently being redeveloped, so I don't know if the facilities are still open during that.

Probably best stick with central.

Rabbies is only a 5 minute walk from Waverly station in Edinburgh. Luggage storage there, at the bus station 15 minutes walk into New Town or, the National Gallery all have great luggage storage.
All major museums in Edinburgh have great luggage storage but no overnight allowance.

We store our luggage at a museum the day we leave after checking out of flat. That allows us access to bags if we need them and to continue sightseeing before hopping onto the tram to the airport.
Hope that helps!
