Isle of Skye 1 day tour?

I'm wondering if a 1 day tour is enough? Rabbies does a 1 day, leaves at 8am comes back at 8pm to and from Inverness that I think might work with our schedule. The other options are 3 days and I'm not sure we have that much time to commit as the bulk of our time will be in and around Edinburgh. Anyone done this tour and does it give a decent overview of the Isle?

Inverness to say Portree, which is by no means the furthest point on Skye, is c3 hours each way plus stops. That's more time travelling than actually spent on Skye.

The tour is designed for those that want to tick the box that they have visited Skye, but even three days still isn't very much time to cover all the island. I was there last July and for 2 days, the Cullins couldn't be seen as they were covered in cloud. Many roads are single track with passing places and take time to navigate.

Skye is certainly worth visiting, but it's a long drive from Inverness. Would I do this as a day trip from Inverness? No, it's too long a day for too short a time there. But it's not my holiday, it's yours and we can't tell what your priorities are.

If you don't go to Skye, what is your alternative trip?

When are you going? We have signed up for the tour in late June and can let you know if we enjoyed it, if you haven't left yet. Isle of Skye is a place we wanted to get to, but it would have made our stay in Oban too busy. We decided to go with the Rabbies tour from Inverness to at least check it out.

We are going in August - that would be great if you could post once you've gone. As much as I would love to give it more time, we are only in Scotland for 6 days total, so I can't give too much time to any one place. I know what people mean about not rushing things, but I would rather see a "highlight" than not see it, and if I really feel like I missed out I can always come back,

I agree. We like to stay a few nights in a place and travel out from there, so this made sense to us. I'll report back. It's fairly new for them to be based out of Inverness, but the tour gets good reviews on Trip Advisor.

I have just returned from 3 weeks in Scotland. I did the one day Isle of Skye tour with Rabbie's from Inverness. Emily the tour guide was very good but it was long. I departed the tour in Portree so I did not take the final leg back to Inverness. I had planned to stay in Portree. I booked a one day tour from Portree with Real Scottish Journeys for one of my days there. We left from the center of town at 9:30 and we're back by 6:30. While I saw some of the same sites the pace was slower and more relaxed. Bill the guide offers the perfect mix of time on the Skye Bus vs hiking. He even arranged for a lovely lunch during our day. We visited the usual sites, Old Man of Storr, kilt rock, fairy pools, fairy glen, Neist Lighthouse and an impromptu stop because the light on the mountains was a perfect photo op. Great story telling/music. It was my favorite day of my vacation. If you are able and can spend the time I would stay in Portree and do the one day tour from Portree. On the other hand if you can not, I don't think you will be disappointed at all with the one day tour from Inverness. It is just more driving.
