Isle of Mull Accommodation suggestions

Hi all

I am trying to book a 2 night stay in Mull for early October but have had little luck finding too many options with a slightly flexible policy. Some of the places I liked are strangely already sold out for my dates. Has anyone been there recently & can suggest places around the island? Amongst other places, I've looked at Harbour Guest House, Linndhu House, Glengorm Castle & they are not available. I am ideally looking for places in & around Tobermory, Salen.

Also, is Craignure a good place to base ourselves for our stay?

Thank you!

We spent two nights recently at Drimnin View bnb. Enjoyed it. It is above Tobermory but a short walk down into town.

Hey Addy,

Allan, who posts on this forum frequently, stayed at the Harbour B&B about 2 years ago and liked it. Here is a comment and a link to the post.

We stayed in Tobermory at the Harbour View B and B https://tobermorybandb.com/. It’s on a hill overlooking a beautiful bay. We loved our stay there, and one of the bonuses was easy parking which is something that is hard to get in the town-centre of Tobermory. Cost was £90/night. Look for the bright pink house on the hill.

There are also several hotels that sit right on the harbor, including The Tobermory Hotel, and the Western Isles Hotel (which sits above the harbor). A woman from England that I met at the ferry terminal said she and her husband stayed at the Western Isles and really liked it. And I passed by the Tobermory Hotel quite a few times and it looked very nice.

Try putting your dates into Booking.com, then if you see somewhere you like, try to book direct with the hotel.

You don't say what your budget is.

The problem with Craignure is that it is basically a ferry port and a very small village. There are a couple of hotels there, but otherwise pretty limited facilities. The benefit is that it is sort of half way down the island, so Iona is much closer than from Tobermory.

On the other hand, especially in the shoulder season, Tobermory is a proper village so has many more facilities.

Craignure would be fine in terms of location - it would lessen your drive to Fionnphort/Iona and it's only a few miles from Duart Castle. Calgary Beach would take longer of course. I would keep shooting for Tobermory, because of the atmosphere, but maybe you could make a backup booking on Craignure just in case.

Hi, Addy K B,

Mrs A and I stayed at the Park Lodge Hotel in Tobermory a few years ago. It wasn't great, but it was more than adequate for a couple of nights. The room was comfortable, albeit small. Breakfast was surprisingly good.

There is no lift, and the car park is small, so you may have to street park.

The hotel is right in Tobermory, behind the Western Isles Hotel, and is within walking distance to everywhere in the town.

Google and TripAdvisor both give the Park Lodge an average of 4 out of 5 star reviews. Even reviews with two or three stars rave about the staff.

I hope that gives you another option.

As always, great suggestions- thank you all. I was on to this today & finally managed to hear back from one of the places I had liked. Hopefully should be able to find a booking at our preferred place soon. Incidentally, I have also booked a back up in Craignure. :) Will report back with suggestions so that it can help someone else too!

I haven't been yet, but I am booked in at the Willow Cottage B&B in Tobermory in September. Reasonable rates, and I've had very lovely emails from the owner with recommendations for my stay. They do appear to have openings in early October!
