Is this route of transportation possible and does it make sense?

Fly into Glasgow from the US. Travel by train to Fort William. Travel by Jacobite Steam Train to Mallaig. Ferry to Isle of Skye. Rent a Car for stay on Isle of Skye. Ferry back to Mallaig. Train to Edinburgh. Caledonian Sleeper to London. Fly back to US.

This is going to be stretched over 16 days. We are taking a leisurely pace seeing what is important to us. It is probably the last overseas trip we will be able to make. My husband has mild/moderate dementia. We manage pretty well as long as he doesn't feel pushed-hurried. My aim is to be able to see what we can see and it will be enough. We both have delved into our ancestry. We are both Scot/English.

The only change I would make would be to take the bus from Fort William to Inverness (it's a beautiful ride through small villages and along Loch shorelines.) Then take the train to Edinburgh from Inverness.

The bus ride is only two hours and you get the bus right next to the train station in Fort William. The bus and train stations in Inverness are a block apart.

I'm contradicting above and saying the bus ride thru Glencoe is much prettier than along Loch Ness (and the train takes another route to the east, so this is new terrain).

Seems like a Campbell might want to spend some time in Glencoe? If flying Icelandair, implied by the Glasgow arrival, consider paying for Saga class for this last journey if you haven't already.

Sandy, I had been planning a trip much like yours, but have changed it around a bit due to our time constraints and my difficulty in finding lodging on Skye for our visit period. However, I was in touch with M2 Motors out of Portree, which seemed like a nice operation - for a fee they will even bring your car down to Armadale for you to meet the ferry (instead of your having to go to Portree to get it). Like I said, I can't REALLY vouch for them since I haven't used them, but in my initial talks with them, they seemed very nice. Worth looking into, at least.
