Is the Afternoon Tea in the Edinburgh Castle worth it?

Yes, I know it's a subjective question. Still, curious as to feedback and opinions. I read mixed reviews, and it seems a bit pricey.
Also, after Edinburgh we will be in York -- and have already booked Betty's Tea Room; I have heard great things. A friend went there a few months ago and raved about.

Thank you

Can't answer about the tea at the Castle. We had afternoon tea at Betty's in York last fall. I wouldn't say that I would rave about it, but it was very nicely done and we very much enjoyed it . The price point was certainly good. We tend to limit our afternoon teas to once per trip. They aren't exactly low calorie.

I thought the food was good, but worth it? Maybe? I did this tea and one in Glasgow, and those two were enough for the trip. It was nice to have a break in the day at the castle but unless you’re really into the tea experience, then maybe save the money for something else?

Or go all in and do the tea but also add the Castle gin to the tab. YOLO, right? There was another Scotland gin I liked better but this one wasn’t bad. (Seven Crofts Gin if you’re wondering).

We went to the tea room in the castle late in the morning and just ordered a la carte. We really liked it and the pastries were very nice. I don't know if that is an option all day - it seems like maybe during their busier times maybe it is the full tea only ?? But then again, why print a menu with various individual choices if you're not offering that ?

Anyway we very much enjoyed it and it made a perfect break while touring the Castle complex. Then again, we were there on a March morning, so we were also happy for the cozy warmth out of the cold !!
