Is it possible to not rent a car to travel to Kelso?

Hello! My family of 4 will be spending 2 nights in Edinburgh to see the Christmas Markets next December. I have also booked 2 nights at Schloss Roxburghe in Kelso, as it’s a good value for Hyatt points and looks so cozy and relaxing.

We do not want to rent a car - I’m assuming it’s possible to hire a car to take us from Edinburgh to Schloss Roxburghe, but are there taxis in a smaller town like that? We plan on spending most of the time on hotel grounds, but would love to explore a bit as well. I understand that not many attractions will be open, but a hike or something is great.

Thanks!

For our upcoming visit to The Borders we will be relying on public transportation. There is regular train service from Edinburg and a good network of buses.

Cut and pasted from Schloss Roxburghe web site:

ARRIVING BY TRAIN.

"There is a selection of options if arriving from train. From London, regular trains travel direct to Berwick upon Tweed station, just over half an hour away from Schloss Roxburghe. From Edinburgh, there are regular trains to Galashiels station, less than 20 minutes from Schloss Roxburghe. We would be happy to coordinate transportation for you to and from the stations via taxi"
If you feel like a splurge:

"It is also possible to arrive directly at SCHLOSS Roxburghe by helicopter."
Looks very nice but probably a budget buster for me. Brad

There is an hourly bus, route 67, from Galashiels Transport Interchange (across the street from the Railway Station) to Kelso (journey time 1 hour).
This is the town website. Kelso is a fair sized town which of course has taxis, which you should visit while there- https://www.visitkelso.com/

This is one of the local taxi companies- https://bordercabco.co.uk/

They would also pick you up at Galashiels, or at Tweedbank- the last stop on the railway line.

There are at least three other companies, from a very quick google search.

Thank you both! I had been accessing Schloss Roxburghe via the Hyatt website, which didn’t contain this same info.
I see where you found it by going directly to the hotel, which is a different site.

Many, many thanks you both!!

I’ll take any food recommendations anyone has :)
