In the planning stages for a five week trip to UK and Ireland June 2023. We would like to take the train north from London to Edinburgh initially. Then train to Glencoe/Fort Williams for a few days, then on to Skye, Mull & Islay. I’ve taken the Cal Mac ferries years ago. I’m thinking that breaking up the rail pass might be a better option so ferries & perhaps local buses are included. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
You will need to work out the logistics and your timetable. The pass can only be used for 4 out 8 days or 8 out of 16 days. Also remember the Spirit of scotland pass can only be used from Carlisle or Berwick north. You will need to buy a separate ticket between London and either of those places.
Plan out a provisional timetable and then check how much train travel and ferries will cost and then take a decision.
At this point, I believe that I’ll go with a one month Eurail global pass with covers Ireland and Great Britain. Also buying a Scottish City link bus pass which will cover a lot of ground. Considering a ferry from Belfast to Cairnryan, then bus service to Oban and Kilmartin. Their explorer pass is 8 days of travel over 16 days. Changing our first destination to Dublin.
