Inverness & Skye - Does this sound reasonable?

Our group of five will be in Scotland for a week. The trip planning is a bit of a struggle because we will be attending a wedding in the middle of our trip which limited some of our travel options. I would appreciate a review and suggestions regarding our current plan. All of our lodging is already booked. We will have a rental car.

Notes: We are staying at two different places in the Skye area because my daughter really wanted to stay at The Cowshed (she stayed previously) but only one night was available. The places we most want to visit are Culloden, the Fairy Pools, Quiraing, and Old Man of Storr. Those are determined by my daughter who was in Scotland last year and wants the rest of us to see them. I would really like to experience an afternoon tea.

I would appreciate your feedback as well as suggestions on changes, other things we should plan to do, and places to eat in both Inverness and Skye. We would be most interested in moderately priced restaurants. My teenager is a somewhat picky eater and does not like fish. We enjoy the outdoors, historical places, and a little shopping.

Thank you for any help.

I think you should put Neist Point and Dunvegan Castle on the same day, and put the Skye Museum on the day you are up that way doing the Quiraing.

On Skye, we only attempted two destinations per day. Between the lengthy driving times and working around the weather, we didn't accomplish much more than that (we stayed five nights).

While in Uig, try to visit the local ceramic/pottery store for lovely handmade artistic bowls, teacups, mugs, etc.

For recommended restaurants in Inverness, the Mustard Seed is excellent (reservations required). I also enjoyed my first meat pie at Hootenanny.

All sounds reasonable apart from you need to switch Museum of Island Life with Neist Point. Have a squint at a map and you will see why! Neist is out west beyond Dunvegan (allow a good 45 minutes to get there from the castle). While the museum of island life is up beyond Uig on the far north of the Trotternish peninsula.

Best wishes

I agree with Linda’s recommendation of the Mustard Seed restaurant in Inverness.

Thank you for the responses.

I agree that changing the day we visit the Museum of Island Life makes sense but the information I could find shows that the museum is closed on Sunday. Given the rest of the planned trip, Saturday is the only time we would be able to visit. The lodging my daughter most was to spend at least one night at The Cowshed. The only night available for all of us to stay there was on Sunday night. I wish the museum was open on Sunday but we will either have to do the extra driving or skip it.

I am sharing information about the other recommendations with the rest of my family and hope to make those work.
