Inverness Lodgings that can book day trips in October

My husband and I will be in Inverness for three nights in mid October. We are taking train to and from Inverness and are looking for a place to stay that we can preferably walk to from train station. We could do a taxi too if necessary. We would like to take day trips to the Colloum (sp) battlefield and to the Isle of Skye (I know it will be a long day). Any recommendations? Thank you

Sounds like you're looking for some tours? I'm staying in Inverness for a few days next month and have booked a one day Ultimate Isle of Skye tour from Inverness with WOW Scotland Tours. I found them through the RS guidebook. https://www.wowscotlandtours.com/

I'm also doing a one day Rabbie's tour that leaves from Inverness and goes to Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns and a few other places. I think they have a few other tours that leave from Inverness too.

Rabbies are your best bet for day trips from Inverness. They use fairly small 'mini' buses and their tours get excellent reviews. They are also welcomed by locals as their drivers help rebuild eroded footpaths here on Skye out of season. As a local I would also say that their buses are always well driven with good road etiquette by their drivers.

I've taken Rabbies Tours out of Inverness. Excellent. The leave from the bus station which is next to the train station. (Double check that since it's been awhile.) I did their day trip to the Isle of Skye.

I've been to Inverness twice and both times stayed at the Premier Inn Riverfront. It's a ten minute walk via a pedestrian bridge to the bus/train station.

Thank you for such quick responses and great recommendations. I really appreciate it. How early should I book those tours?

Inverness is a pretty compact place, and most of the good places to stay are proximate to the train station.

Wherever you stay, I highly recommend Hootenanny for nightly Highland music, and the Black Isle for excellent pizza and house-made craft beer. Also the Mustard Seed Restaurant. Best mussels I've ever had.

I love Inverness!

Rabbies, and all other tour companies, were banned from the bus station 2 or 3 years ago.
They now leave from Ardross Street, by the Episcopal (as opposed to Roman Catholic) Cathedral, on the south side of the River Ness
