My two sisters and one brother are planning a Scotland trip for September 2023. We are planning on starting in Inverness (4 nights) and doing a 2 day private tour ( family history).
We need recommendations for a place to stay- since we won’t have a car we thought near the city center. An apartment could be an option. There is concern about walking and luggage carrying for a couple of us in particular. Not looking for a “budget” accommodation, just clean, safe and good location. ( near restaurants, pubs, etc…)
Hi, cjmaki57,
I have not stayed there, but the Glen Mhor Hotel and Apartments on Ness Bank has received many good reviews on Trip Advisor, and has been mentioned many times on this forum. It's in a good location, about a five minute walk from central Inverness pubs and restaurants, and as the address implies, right on the river. It's about a 15 minute walk from the train and bus stations, or a quick taxi ride.
Last two times over, we stayed at the Premier Inn out by the canal. It was clean, comfortable, and inexpensive. However, it's a good mile from downtown, so may not be suitable for your purposes.
Best wishes with your family research, and have a wonderful time in Scotland!

I can't vouch for it but here is where we had booked before covid cancelled our trip. It's right beside the train station. https://www.royalhighlandhotel.co.uk/
I have twice stayed at the Premier Inn City Centre on the River Ness.
It's about a 10-12 minute walk to the train station and the center of town. There's a pedestrian bridge near the hotel that goes across the river.
Taxis are readily available.
Thanks everyone - as of right now we've rented a Airbnb cottage in town on the river. Are cabs easy to get? How about Uber or Lyft - do they have those?
