Inverness Area Base (romantic, secluded)

Hello,

My husband and I will be seeing a few sites in the “Inverness area” in late July. We will be booking for 2 nights. We are looking for a romantic hotel (manor or castle hotel would be lovely) or even an upscale BnB. A quaint village nearby would be lovely, also. We will not be going into the city of Inverness this trip. Any recommendations on a town/hotel in the area? We will be driving from Pitlochry to this area.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Nairn has some nice B&Bs. We stayed one night at Invernaine GH which was quite nice, though not secluded. By sheer luck, our visit coincided with a nice house concert in the lounge. Short beach/park walk to the town center and restaurants/pubs. If your "few sites" are east of Inverness, it is even more convenient. We stopped at Bow Fiddle Rock, Craigman Bridge, Elgin, and Cairn Laith the next day on the way to Wick.

We spent one night in Inverness a few years earlier since we like to be able to walk to pubs for music. On that trip we did Culloden, Clava Cairns, and Urquhart Castle. Didn't spend any time in Inverness proper except for the pubs.

You can preview areas and accommodations with great photos and info on the Visit Scotland web site. It is a great gateway to several other helpful sites with info about transportation and places open to the public. As soon as you ask online for Castle or Romantic Hotels you will be showered with choices. As for secluded, I would look on Google Earth for accomodations that are Lakesides or are sited on a Farm. As for quaint villages, that is in the eye of the beholder...in modern times that means that it doesn't have a Costco, LOL! Check the different routes that you can go from Pitlochry going towards the Inverness Area for stops along the way. We stayed in Nairn which is seaside and we can also reccomend it! We stayed in a lovely 1800s cottage B&B. Bon Voyage!
