There are lots of options so I need help me prioritizing where to spend a couple of nights in mid-September. We'll have a car.
Thanks!

Well, Glen House (located near Peebles) would certainly be interesting, though I don't know if it fits your budget or the size of your party.
Glen House looks beautiful and might take all of the travel budget to stay there. Maybe next time.
Instead of spending the money, you could read up on the improbable life of Colin Tennant, the late nobleman who owned Glen but spent much of his life on Mustique in the Caribbean. His widow, Lady Anne Glenconner, was a maid of honor at the coronation in 1953.
NOT The Old Bank House in Melrose. If its the same owner/operator as when we were there in 2013, stay away! Not only does he exhibit some rather peculiar political views, he will trap you at breakfast to pontificate upon those views. Look elsewhere. (Location was good!)
We enjoyed the Dryburgh Abbey Hotel a few years ago. It is located in the countryside, adjacent to the abbey.
When we were in that area, we stayed at what is now the Green Tree Hotel in Peebles. The room was huge and above the dining room. Not certain if that’s the same name as when we visited.
