Info for travelers to Oban

The most recent RS guidebook on the Best of Scotland could well update the location of grocery stores. If you happen to be staying for a few days and are located not far from Hawthornbank Guest House (#3 on the map), take the Albert Rd. down to the main drag. Soon you'll see on your right, "Farm Foods", a decent grocery store with an amazing selection of cookies, biscuits, and other wonderful sweets, all located above all the freezers. The grocery suggested by RS by #24 is as far away as you can go on that same map and well out of range for all of the recommended places to stay.
Also, to enjoy the fresh air of the harbor while savoring a takeout of Fish and Chips, don't be surprised that you'd have to trek clear over to the Ferry Terminal to use a public restroom. Yes, some restaurants do offer the needed faciities, but it's not the same as eating a take out on the harbor. And, not everyone's lodging is close to the harbor area when nature calls. Be forewarned.

I'm aware of that. I wanted to put it forth for folks planning on visiting right now, not when the next guide book comes out.

I just look on Google maps for grocery stores. Look for the common names, Lidl, M&S, Tesco, etc. Guide books are out of date before they’re printed. If I just need a convenience store, I’ll see if there’s a Spar in town.

Sue,

Thats actually a very good idea for anyone staying at the North end of town. I almost always stay near the station so use Tesco and hadn't thought about the North end of town.

Farm foods are one of the less well known nationwide discount grocery chains, and were around well before Lidl and Aldi. They are very good value. Maybe better known for their freezer foods.

Yes that should be in the guidebook. Thank you.

Also if the Cinema/movie theatre is in the guidebook that has now closed down , in the last few weeks.
