Including local/regional theatre and music in trips.

I have posted about my life-bucket trip to Scotland and here is another. I'm on this forum because I started with RS guide as the loose guide, included much info from here and my 2 Scottish friends. Thanks to the internet, I don't have to land in a city and hit the TI to find out what is going on on a local theatre/art/music level. Good news, in my week in Edinburgh I have tickets to Dovecot Studio Warhol lunch tour, Macbeth (Revisited) at Lyceum Edinburgh and Romesh Ranganathan at Edinburgh Playhouse, a 15 minute walk from where I am staying. I found most of them via VisitScotland.co.uk and the prices were about what I would pay in my city. These blew the RS day 1-3 plan completely, but I can't do it all. Unfortunately the Scottish Royal Symphonic Orchestra is not playing in any of the 12 locations I am visiting over 7 weeks, but I may be willing to give up some time to travel to make that happen. I have theatre tickets in Pitlochry as well.

Wow, you have some excellent music art activities planned! What a fun itinerary!

I do like to add 1-2 musical events during a trip to Europe. I have opera theatre tickets to Palermo’s (Sicily) Teatro Massimo. I am also hoping for several impromptu street musicians (perfect to contribute Euros coins) during the trip.

Ah, lovely! I was jazzed about seeing the Warhol exhibition until I realized that it’s closing the day before we arrive in Edinburgh…and then Dovecot will be closed for about a month, so I won’t be able to visit there at all this time.

Ah well, it gives me an excuse to return soon (as if I needed one)!

I think I am getting the last lunch lecture before it closes. Dovecot is so great for textiles and I had no idea they were closing. Makes me even more grateful I caught this.

There are two other major, professional orchestras in Scotland in addition to the RSNO (which is I think who you mean by the Royal Symphonic). They are BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (my favourites). Might be worth seeing if you can catch any of them while you are in Scotland.

I am not in the right place at the right time to catch either of these. I am going to Ayr for a youth fiddle orchestra June 22. I met them when they were in Memphis last June and told them I would be there in a year. They told me their annual concert is during that time, so I look forward to supporting young musicians at that event.
