how to get from inverness to oban without a car

I am traveling to Inverness first . Looking at Rick's Snapshot Scotland it looks like we could take a bus from Inverness to Fort william and Fort william to 0ban but it is on a sunday, august 16 and I am not sure that will work I have searched for several hours and the best shot is in Rick's book. there is a train but it is 6 hours which seems silly when the distance is about 2 hours.

Go with Richard's suggestion of Citylink.

You can go from Inverness to Oban by train, but via somewhere else on the other side of the country, there is no direct line between the two. Inverness to Oban by train would be like going from Toronto to Montreal via New York.

Your only choice is the bus, and most of the long distance coaches in Scotland are Citylink.

I would never holiday in Scotland unless I was driving due to the very problems that you are encountering!

If you drove it straight without stopping, it is at least a three hour drive. Fort William to Oban is a good 1.5 hours. Plus you are travelling on a Sunday in peak season, which will mean fewer buses and more traffic on the road!

Your destinations are on opposite sides of the country and most transport routes run north/south not east/west.

I got my answer from West Coast motors. go to the bus ticket office in Inverness . purchase a ticket bus 819 to fort william . and a ticket on West Coast motors to Oban. all bought and paid for right there. and the tour to mull and Iona from Oban no longer requires a reservation as they just keep adding buses. I can finally relax with most pressing questions answered.
