My wife and I will be in Edinburgh next weekend and want to take a day trip to Stirling. We will travel by train. How much time should we budget for our visit to Stirling? And besides the castle, what else is a must-see in Stirling?
I enjoyed the nearby Falkirk Wheel. http://www.scottishcanals.co.uk/falkirk-wheel/
I took the free tour at the castle and really enjoyed it. I ended up spending about 2.5 hours.
The castle is terrific so you want to budget a good amount of time. But just down the road is Argyle's Lodging which is an interesting site to visit. Here's the Undiscovered Scotland Feature page for Stirling. It outlines some more things to do and see. The visitor center at the Bannockburn Battlefield was redone a few years ago. When we went decades ago there were only the two statues. You can get there by bus.
