Hotel recommendations in Edinburgh

Seeking recommendations...
Are there particular areas you recommend to stay, as well as to avoid?
Our priorities are quality, cleanliness, and location. Not looking for bargain/value; OK to pay (just not crazy prices).
We will be going in June, so Air Conditioning is a requirement for the two of us.

Does anyone have an opinion about the Market Street Hotel?

"I think" we would like to be in Old Town or New Town, but would like to be a bit off the prime streets.
[If any of you have been to Prague, something like the Residence Agnes would be ideal -- thank you fellow Rick Steves' readers]

Thank you for your feedback

We really enjoyed our stay at the Ibis St. Andrews Square. It's in an excellent location in New Town. We walked everywhere - to the Royal Mile, the Castle, to the Botanic Gardens, and to all the restaurants we dined at. Our room was small (typical of Europe) and clean; the staff were very friendly and helpful; and the included breakfast buffet was filling and delicious.

I stayed at the Market Street hotel last year and highly recommend it. Well, if you can afford it. I was hoping to stay there again next year, but they really increased the prices. At least for Sept. Maybe June won’t be so bad.

I thought the location was great. Super convenient to everything. I stayed in one of the “Roomy” rooms.

I arrived in Edinburgh in the early morning so i reserved the room for the night before so i could get in right away.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn and really liked it. It’s just far enough away from the (very noisy and touristy) mile to be quiet, the breakfast was great, and it’s a very modern, new hotel.

Thank you kmkwoo, Carrie, and Kelly’d Rather.

@Carrie, from what I can tell, they all hiked prices, beginning around April. And it goes even higher in August with the Festival.
How was the level of noise from the street at the Market Street Hotel?

I think you are right about prices being higher in general. I’m staying at a “cheaper” hotel, the Motel One Edinburgh Princes, in Sept. and even that is well over $300 a night.

I heard zero noise from inside my room. I have no complaints. They left a good selection of snacks each time they cleaned the room too. Walker’s biscuits, Tunnock’s tea cakes, potato chips, etc. I’m sad I got priced out because it is a great hotel.

Thank you ramblin' on

I am OK paying a premium..."but only to an extent"
For example, Balmoral is beyond my upper ceiling; I'd even say the George would be a stretch.

I will check out the link you shared

I've also stayed at the Market Street Hotel. It was lovely and the champagne breakfast buffet was the nicest I've ever encountered. The location was fantastic, it was quiet and we loved it. If you can afford it, go for it.
